This new, annual, initiative was introduced at the start of 2019 to replace the Year 5 Summer School that we have run in previous years. The new Scholars’ program allows us to work with a group of Year 5 students over a longer period so we can develop a stronger relationship with the students, their parents and their current schools.
It is aimed at very able Year 5 girls who would enjoy the challenge of working with other like-minded students on some exciting cross-curricular projects. The sessions will involve activities such as designing T-shirts using the brutalist art of the Barbican and dissecting a heart in our science lab.
The programme involves five Saturday morning masterclasses across the Spring and Summer terms, an afternoon in school in June where students will have an opportunity to meet current City students and try out some lessons and then some preparation sessions for 11+ exams in the Autumn term of Year 6. All sessions are run by CLSG specialist teachers.
The programme is free to participate in. As we are really keen to encourage students to apply for bursary places at City and at other competitive state and independent schools it is targeted at top achieving girls in Year 5 who are on free school meals and who attend state schools local to CLSG.
