Rowing Successes

City girls Chloe Taylor & Flora Clark have performed brilliantly at the recent Henley Women’s Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.

City girls Chloe Taylor & Flora Clark have performed brilliantly at the recent Henley Women’s Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.

Chloe is currently a Year 12 pupil and has been rowing as a junior with Lea Rowing Club for several years. This year, she has been training with the senior women’s squad, and gained a place in the club’s women’s first VIII entry for Henley Women’s Regatta. This has involved Chloe in a high level commitment to training with the squad, several evenings a week and at weekends, which she has managed very effectively.

Henley Women’s Regatta is a major annual rowing competition, held on the same course as Henley Royal Regatta, over three days 19th to 21st June. The event has a very high standard, drawing some 400 entries from clubs across the UK and internationally.

The Lea first crew, including Chloe, went on to win the Club Eights event, from a field of 14 crews, beating an excellent crew from City of Cambridge in the final. This is a major achievement for the club and for Chloe.

On 26 June, Flora Clark, (11S) qualified to compete at Henley Royal Regatta in the Diamond Jubilee Challenge Cup.

This is the highest level of competition for junior women's quadruple sculls in the country, and Flora's success is of particular note as it is open to girls up until the end of Year 13.
