On 11 June, the CLSG Young Enterprise company, Storm, competed at the Company of the Year London Finals at HSBC in Canary Wharf. Storm have designed reusable and recyclable coffee cups made from polypropylene with a screw top lid and rubber grip.
With a strong passion for the environment, Storm intend to phase out the disposable coffee cups used in schools and around the City of London which are non-recyclable. The cups are made in Britain and are safe for use in dishwashers and microwaves. Storm have launched a range of designs with their brand logo and have also been selling personalised large batch orders to corporate clients incorporating their own logos.
The girls performed incredibly well at the finals and were crowned the ‘The Best Company in London’.
The team also won an award for ‘Best Presentation’ as well as awards for ‘Retail Excellence’ and ‘Production’ thus adding another four trophies to stand alongside the six already won in previous rounds.
This is an exceptional achievement as they have had to knock out approximately 22,000 students from 270 schools across London to win the award. Only three schools from East London have won the London Final in the last 30 years.
They will now represent London at the UK Finals on 1-3 July at British Film Institute (BFI) on the Southbank hoping to win a place at the European Final in Berlin.
"This is an outstanding success, and the whole school community is thrilled and tremendously proud of the girls. They have really shown what being a City girl is about: collaboration, creativity and hard work." - Mrs. Ena Harrop, Headmistress
"After five years of 'just missing out' we have finally made it to the London Finals. Not only that, we have won it! Very proud of the students. Thank you to Young Enterprise and all the sponsors for your continued support." - Mr. Ashley Wright, Young Enterprise Teacher
"I am delighted that Storm have won the London Company of the year, and that their mission to reduce the 25 billion paper cups disposed annually with their reusable AND recyclable cup, is one step closer. I've been amazed by the sheer drive and determination of my team as they have progressed on through the Young Enterprise company programme. Starting with no knowledge about business but a passion for the environment and a determination to excel in the programme, I've seen how we've ignited a true entrepreneurial spirit and gradually built their confidence to succeed in business." - Ms. Suzy Goodwin, YE Business Advisor
"We have all found this experience truly eye opening in ways we cannot describe. Young Enterprise has instilled a new confidence in us by helping us realise that with passion, drive and team work we can truly aim big. Although CLSG is not a business focused school by nature, Storm's success has proven that despite obstacles anything is possible and we hope that this has inspired other schools all across London to persevere with their companies regardless of their circumstance." - Yasmine Salam, Managing Director of Storm
