City’s Prep Achieve Brilliant LAMDA Results

Following a successful year of GCSE and A Level results, City’s Prep students have achieved equally pleasing results in their LAMDA examinations.  The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is the oldest Drama School in the UK. The examinations provided by the academy aim to improve confidence and communication skills and City Prep pupils have been taking part in examinations for the past five years.

Upper 2 (Year 6) 2013-2014, undertook the Speaking Verse and Prose, Grade Two Examination on 4th July, 2014. The results are the best we have received, 100% pass with 95% gaining distinction (19 Distinctions and 1 Merit). Two pupils scored the joint highest marks in their school class of 92. According to LAMDA, these examinations “use poetry and prose to develop effective oral communication skills that will prove invaluable throughout life. Performing texts from memory develops strong presentation skills and a good speaking voice. Equally importantly, memorising a number of pieces encourages self-discipline and focus.”

Head of Prep at CLSG, Jane Rogers, has commented, “We are very proud of the hard work that has enabled the girls to achieve these outstanding results. Their work with their teacher has been evidence of their enjoyment and commitment in this endeavour. These examinations help the girls to develop in so many ways, not least in their confidence and ability to communicate to adult audiences”.

The results demonstrate the dedication and hard work not only of the students, but also the support and commitment of the staff and parents. The examinations provide the girls with essential life skills and we look forward to continuing these in future years.
