On Thursday, pupils in Years 11, 12 and 13 attended a talk from Lauren Murrell, a former pupil of Miss Venditti's (Senior Deputy Head), about her perseverance through the hardships and her resilience in the face of adversity.
Our guest detailed her battle with a rare form of leukaemia during her last year of law school, which was her passion. Eventually she overcame her sickness and went back to law school and became qualified, only to suffer another great trauma of Hurricane Irma in the Cayman Islands. Lauren demonstrated her admirable endurance in being able to overcome another significant derangement to her life.
>From there, along with her sister Sarah, she set up a business inspired by her experience with leukaemia, called By Sarah London. This is a transparent skincare brand designed to help people with sensitive skin, and it does this by including only natural ingredients and listing them on the front of the packaging. It was an inspiring talk, both in the way she had overcome adversity, and set up her own business. Lauren is the paradigm of resilience - a great motivation to all of us at City.
