On 28 November, 50 German students in Year 8 and 9 went on a trip to the Rhineland region of Germany. After arriving in Germany, we visited Cologne Cathedral - otherwise known as the Kölner Dom. Afterwards, we visited a nearby Christmas Market. However, the day was not finished yet! Next on our list was Phantasialand - a German theme park! The park included many record-breaking rides, such as the Taron and the Raik. The theme park was divided into different sections, which the rides were then based on. These included Fantasy, Deep in Africa, Berlin, Mexico, Mystery, and China Town.
The next morning, our group was scheduled to go on a cruise of the river Rhine. After the cruise, we visited the Marksburg Castle where we got to experience what it would be like to live in a fortress used for protection. After the guided tour was finished, we finally met our penpals. At first, all of us felt pretty awkward. However, after we took part in a treasure hunt at a Christmas Market together, we grew really close. At the end, it was hard to say goodbye and we can’t wait to see them again on the German Exchange in Year 10!
On the last day, our group visited a Lindt chocolate museum in Cologne. The museum was built in the shape of a ship, which took us on an unforgettable journey through the culture and history of chocolate. Yet, the best part was that we got to see how the chocolate was made, try a few mouth-watering samples, and buy some chocolates to take home/eat on the journey back.
The three days that the German students spent in Germany were definitely remarkable. Even though we were very tired at the end of the trip, we were extremely happy. I am confident to say that the Trip to Rhineland was one of the best trips ever at CLSG!
