During half term, the Year 8, 9 and 10 netball squads went to Valkenburg in Holland for a week of netball training and a tournament. We arrived in the afternoon and headed straight to a pancake house. The next day we had our first day of netball training with professional coaches from the UK, including Hayley Mulheron from the Scottish netball team. We split into year groups with another school (The Royal Masonic School for Girls). Our group focused on defence and movement in the D, in which our team got some great tips and definitely improved. Our evening activity on Tuesday was bowling, so after dinner we went to the local bowling alley.
On Wednesday we had another day of training and this time the Year 9s were training with Hayley Mulheron and we focused on attacking and direct passing. That evening our activity was tobogganing, however before going tobogganing we had time to look around Valkenburg. On Thursday, our final full day, we had a tournament in the afternoon. However, in the morning we drove to Germany to go to Aquana waterpark, which was really fun. In the afternoon we made our way to the tournament, in which we used all the tactics and tips that the coaches had given us over the past few days. In the end, the Year 10s came 1st, the Year 9s came 2nd and the Year 8s came 3rd. Overall, it was a great experience which we all thoroughly enjoyed.
