VIQC Robotics Competition

Monday 4 November saw the school host the City of London VIQC Squared Away Robotics Competition. Seven CLSG robotics teams from Years 8 and 9 participated in a day of robotics competition, with 16 teams from five schools coming from Greater London.

This year’s task is to lift cubes onto platforms and to stack balls within cubes. A long day of competition with 69 separate rounds of robotics matches culminated in a final shoot out for the top 20 teams. Despite building some great robots, the CLSG teams did not score as highly as some of the other robots.

The best CLSG performances were from the two Year 9 teams. Roma (Rujula, Olivia, Amelia and Olivia) was the highest scoring CLSG Robot, scoring a total of 21 points and finished a respectable 13th in the Robot Skills challenge. Trial and Error (Emily, Alexandra, Elizabeth, Yi Nuo, Anningan and Yilu) finished 7th in the final round of the Teamwork Challenge, with a score of 31 points. The awards were dominated by teams from Merchant Taylor’s School, who scooped the top prizes for both the Robot Skills and Teamwork Challenges, as well as winning the Judges Award.
