On Friday, Prep pupils gave two brilliant performances of this year's Prep Opera, Bugsy Malone. Director and Drama Teacher, Mr Whyld, has written this account:
My first real experience of theatre was Bugsy Malone. It was the summer of 1986, I was 11 years old and playing Dandy Dan. Louella, Dan’s on-stage girlfriend, was played by a sixth former, and the prospect of kissing her hand after the line ‘Later my rose, later’, was terrifying. Nonetheless, it sparked what has become a lifelong passion for theatre.
I hope that this Bugsy experience inspired in Year 5 and Year 6 a love of the dramatic arts that they will carry with them throughout their school career and beyond. It was such a great pleasure directing these two classes, any challenge offered was embraced and throughout the entire process, they were true professionals.
