Congratulations to Caitlin, Aishani, Kioni and Alexandra in Year 11, who have all been successful in applying for an Arkwright Engineering Scholarship this year.
Arkwright Engineering Scholarships are awarded to 'the brightest and best' students that have the passion and determination to succeed in their future studies. The application process consists of a teacher endorsed application form including a portfolio of work, a two-hour engineering examination and then a gruelling interview. Each stage of the process increases in difficulty, as thousands of applicants are whittled down to a small number who receive their awards at ceremonies supported by the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
Arkwright Scholars receive financial support in the sum of £600, to spend on whatever they like. The school also receives £400 per scholar to spend on equipment. The Scholars are linked with a Mentor; a professional Engineer who can provide advice and guidance about their future study and career development, and even technical advice to help with projects. They also have access to a wide range of enrichment opportunities, workshops and work experience placements.
The Engineering Scholars are supported by Arkwright for the entirety of their A Level studies and will hopefully be taking full advantage of this scholarship. We plan to invest in a new A1 Laser Cutter machine for the Design Technology Department with the financial aid that this year’s scholars have brought into the school. Congratulations and thank you to all four girls.
