On 26 March, Year 10 and 12 City Girls along with Ms Garner, Ms Anderson and Ms Singleton embarked on an exciting adventure to China.
Shortly after landing, we made a four hour journey to the city of Nanjing, and arrived at our first destination: Gan’s Family Courtyard. We also explored the Imperial Examination Hall which was interesting to see since we were able to fully immerse ourself in the past. One thing that all of us enjoyed was the small boat trip on the lake; there were gorgeous lanterns floating on the lake left from celebrations of the Chinese New Year, as well as ladies dressed in traditional clothing dancing and performing on the sides. We also went to Jinling High school, where we received an incredibly warm welcome, and had so much fun meeting students and getting an insight into the typical high school life of a Chinese teenager.
Shanghai was incredibly modern and left us all in awe! Walking around Shanghai was ethereal, since the city had a very modern vibe to it and always seemed to be alive and energetic. Some highlights of Shanghai were The Bund, which boasted some jaw dropping architecture with very lavish design. We all also really enjoyed the cooking classes that we had and were proud to produce a whole meal together. Another highlight was visiting The French Concession, where we saw the influence of French architecture in China and we had a lot of free time to roam around and take lots of photos.
Overall, the China trip was an unforgettable experience for all of us. It was heart-warming to be greeted with great enthusiasm by the people we met in China and it would not have been possible without Ms Garner who organised the trip painstakingly- thank you so much!
