City of London

School for girls

On Wednesday 16 January, City had its first ever Mock Trial. The crime: a cricket ball had been hurled across the Barbican Lake, knocking Rosa (a Year 11 student) unconscious.

The trial consisted of cross-examining witnesses, using exhibits and gathering more and more evidence for either side, until the jury (Years 9-13) made its verdict. Shockingly, the jury voted not guilty, although it was later revealed that the accused had indeed committed the crime! We fear for when City girls get called for jury duty!

We were very fortunate to be judged by Kathryn Stone, the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, who said that it was a very impressive trial. Many thanks to Mr FitzGerald, who put so much effort into creating an ingenious scenario.
