This term, the Lower 6th design students collaborated with UAL: London College of Fashion to enter a competition with the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers. The Cordwainers design and make footwear and other fashion accessories.
For this London based competition, students were required to complete a portfolio of work including inspirational imagery, along with research to support a concept and hand drawn design development. They were also required to write a design philosophy and rationale and include a mood board, consumer profile, colour palette, materials board, five pages of design development, two visuals to show the design features of the shoe and a specification sheet.
The group visited UAL and toured the workshops, gaining insightful knowledge into the world of fashion design. The girls worked very hard on their projects, and all gained a place in the finals of the Cordwainers' National Footwear Student Awards. This prestigious event was held at the Clothworkers’ Hall, and saw the top fashion design students from all over the UK come together to celebrate their achievements and learn the name of the winner of ‘Student of the Year’.
Cash prizes, certificates and gold coins were awarded to those in the top three positions, and amazingly, all of our students made the top three!
In 3rd place with a prize of £125, Ela
In joint 2nd place with prizes of £125 each, Sonja and Tosin
In 1st place with a prize of £500, Brigiinia
The Design and Technology department also received some money, which will be help to fund a new 3D scanner which will be beneficial for design exploration in coursework.
Congratulations to all girls for their fantastic achievement.
