On Monday 23rd April, we welcomed Madeleine Sumption to the school.
Madeleine works at the Migration Observatory at Oxford University and her visit was particularly timely in light of recent media interest in the immigration obstacles experienced by members of the Windrush generation. Madeleine was able to put this issue into its wider context and to offer some suggestions about why it had come to the fore now.
Students were also challenged to interrogate data about public attitudes to immigration and to offer suggestions to explain trends. Finally, in small groups, students debated and considered a variety of factors relating to the question: ‘How much immigration is too much?’
