Students celebrated this morning as they received an exceptional set of exam results. The cohort achieved a 100 per cent pass rate across all subjects, with 85 per cent gaining A* and A grades only.
A record 45 per cent of entries were graded A*, an increase of 9 percentage points on last year’s results. City girls have therefore bucked the national trend that has seen girls achieve less A* grades in 2017 than in 2016.
Amongst the best results were Modern Foreign Languages (German, French, Spanish and Chinese) with 72 per cent of entries being graded A*. Those studying STEM subjects once again excelled, with 90 per cent achieving A* to A in these subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Further Maths and Design Technology). Over 30 students have accepted places to study STEM subjects at university. 78 per cent of those studying Further Maths achieved an A* grade, with 100 per cent achieving A* or A.
Headmistress, Mrs Ena Harrop said: “We are truly delighted with the exams results. This year's cohort has achieved an unprecedented number of high grades and we are incredibly proud of what every single one of our students has achieved. They have worked very hard and have coped admirably with the uncertainties surrounding the new exams syllabi.
“I am very grateful to our staff for their dedication and ability to inspire and support the girls, which have been a crucial element of their success too. As the girls leave us to start university life, we wish them the very best, knowing that their time at City has equipped them very well academically and personally to face up any challenges ahead.”
