Naomi Wei (pictured first on the left) has been selected as one of four reserves for the UK team competing in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), and is one of just two girls to join the squad.
International mathematics competitions are traditionally male dominated, and this is the first time in 25 years that two girls have made it onto the team for the world championships. The Guardian have published an article about these talented students, which includes a quote from Naomi. Read more on their website.
The IMO competition starts on Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, when the most talented young students from more than 100 countries will come together to solve challenging mathematical problems in a friendly competition.
