Regional Robotics Heat

On Wednesday, CLSG’s VEX EDR Robotics teams attended their first regional heat of the 2016-2017 Starstruck Challenge, featuring 15 teams from schools across England.

The VEX EDR Challenge, endorsed by the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation, is an engineering and programming challenge for students in Year 10 and above which encourages STEM. Two teams from City were entered in the competition for the first time this academic year, after they graduated from the VEX IQ competition for Years 6 to 9 last year and requested to continue on with Robotics at City.

After seeing this year’s challenge, the student knew it was going to be a massive step up from last year’s IQ challenge but they worked together and welcomed plenty of new faces to the club. Students worked multiple evenings afterschool on designing, building, and programming their robots and we are very pleased to say that, in spite of facing very difficult competitors, they came in 6th and 7th place at their first competition.

The students have learned a lot from the competition and will work towards refining their programming and design process for the next challenge, which is released in April.

Well done to all involved!
