World class team? Not up for debate

CLSG debaters took the Dutch Schools Debating Competition – their first in the world schools format – by storm, with Anoushka, Sawda, and Niamh (all year 12), Inji (year 10), and Eliza (year 9) ending two long days debating as winners of the Novice Finals.

Niamh explains, "The competition had 60 teams from 20 different countries, with many national teams from European countries as well as the USA, China and Singapore. CLSG debaters were the only British team to take part. Winning four of our first six debates, including one where we had to argue that Trump's foreign policy had done more good than harm, we made it through to the novice final, which we won, successfully defending the motion 'This House Regrets the narrative that egoism is bad' against an intimidating team from China."
