Theatre trip: The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk

Drama students from years 10-13 were lucky to have the opportunity to of watch a live-streamed performance from Bristol Old Vic.

The award-winning Wise Children production of The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk, directed by Emma Rice was rehearsed in isolation so that the show could be performed in its intimate original form with no social distancing. The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk is set during the turbulence of the early 20th century, and explores the complex relationship between the expressionist artist Marc Chagall and his wife, the writer Bella Rosenfeld, as they are forced to leave their home and move around Russia and Europe. It is a wistful celebration of the endurance of love and art, and serves as an important reminder of what to hold on to in times of difficulty.
