This week we remember Lily Betts, former CLSG headmistress, who has sadly passed away after a short illness.
Lily left City in 1986 after 14 years as Headmistress. Before this she taught in the English department, when the school was still based at Carmelite Street. Although it had been many years since Lily worked at the school, her family have told us that she reminisced happily whenever the subject of CLSG came up, and spoke often and highly of many ex-pupils she had seen come and go. It appears the same was true of the reverse – former pupil Dinah Rose QC, who attended CLSG during Lily's headship, recalls fondly that 'Miss Mackie was a force of nature, who instilled in us self-confidence and self-belief.'
