Andrew Russell, the head of City of London Virtual School, which caters for young people in care recently addressed the sixth form.
Most of his students are unaccompanied asylum-seeking refugees, Bashra, one of these young people, spoke about his life-story fleeing war-torn Ethiopia for London, via Eritrea and Calais. Maia in year 12 commented: "We were all moved by Basra’s experience and shocked by how brave he was to be standing in front of us speaking in a new language and making jokes. His mother died and his father imprisoned when he was young, so for most of his life he was by himself. Bashra made us realise how lucky we are." As part of our school's partnerships work, and when circumstances allow, we hope to host two girls from the Virtual School so they can practise their English and take part in some enrichment sessions at CLSG.
