Behind every male sonnet writer...

Year 9 recently had the opportunity to watch a recorded version of the play ‘Emilia’ by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, performed by an all-female cast.

Year 9 Lois reported that "despite being unable to have this experience in a theatre, we enjoyed the modern take on this feminist story which follows the life of the seventeenth century poet, Emilia Bassano, the ‘Dark Lady’ who, the play suggests, was the inspiration for many of Shakespeare’s sonnets. The play spans Emilia’s life from youth to older age, when she reflects on her actions and achievements, culminating with a passionate speech about embracing anger to call for change. It was a great production, and an afternoon well spent for the whole of our year."
