City of London

School for girls

Netball is one of the most popular sports at City.

Students practice during lunchtimes as part of squad training, but there is also the opportunity for any girls to attend a recreational netball club. We run a full fixtures calendar against other schools with friendly matches and local tournaments. We also enter the National Schools netball tournament and Middlesex tournaments for all age groups and girls are selected as part of the London Borough team for the Youth Games.

End of Season Report – Summer 2015

The U10 Netball team has gone from strength to strength and came runner up in the Mini Netball Tournament at Golden Lane.

The squad also took part in the Belmont Netball Tournament on Saturday 7th March against 11 other schools. The girls played some super netball and managed to dominate the possession in all of their pool games. After 5 back to back matches City came out a magnificent top of their pool. They then had to play off for 1st and 2nd position overall against North London Collegiate School. It was the toughest match and City gave it all they had but when the final whistle blew it was NLCS who managed the win.

The girls were delighted to be coming away from the tournament with well deserved silver medals. Congratulations to all the girls who took part: Amber, Annabelle, Lucy, Amina, Maddie, Sophia G, Sophie S and Ella. Coaches player of the tournament went to Amina James.

We also have a tournament organised at City for the U10 team on 18th March and we wish them all the best of luck for this.

We had 2 squads of Year 8 & 9 girls go to Condover Hall for a netball weekend which was very successful. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the high level of competition and coaching from England Netball players.

The U14 and U15 team have progressed well this year. The U14 team have reached the finals of the Middlesex County Tournament, where they placed 6th overall and 4th in the National Schools Tournament. The U15 team missed out on qualifying for the Middlesex County Finals on goal difference. However they have progressed well throughout the season and have really developed as a team. The teams that they played and lost to at Middlesex they are now beating, so things are looking hopeful as we enter into next season.

The U16 team also made it through to the Middlesex Finals where they played their hearts out to finish a creditable 6th in the county.

Within school we have had House netball matches where the Year 7 trophy was won by St. Bride, Year 8 winner Fleet, Year 9 winner Fleet, Year 10 winner Ward and Year 11 winner St. Bride.  The overall House Netball cup went to Fleet.

Girls who participate in City's running programme enjoy the varied drills and challenge themselves to better personal best records. Girls have the opportunity to participate in the prestigious London Mini Marathon and the London Schools Cross Country Championships.
