Cloud Busting: 2020 Junior Drama Production

This week, Year 8 and 9 performed Cloudbusting. Written by Malorie Blackman, it is a tale of friendship and individuality and centres around an unlikely friendship between the two protagonists. When Davey arrives at a new school he immediately becomes the target of Sam, the school bully. However, after Davey pulls Sam out of the way of a speeding car, a friendship blossoms yet he is too afraid to admit his new friendship and ignores Davey whilst with his other friends. Then, when Davy is hospitalised after an attack goes too far his class learns an important lesson about identity when he leaves the school.

Overall, the play was a really enjoyable experience. It was really exciting to work with such an amazing cast and we were able to experiment with a wide range of new drama techniques. We were inspired by styles of theatre, such as Frantic Assembly which allowed us to create a very physical piece. The fact that the cast didn’t leave the stage throughout the play added an extra level of difficulty, but we enjoyed the challenge.

I would like to thank Mr Whyld on behalf of the cast for such an enjoyable experience as well as Tom, the rest of tech and the premises team for helping to put on such an amazing show!
