Host of A* GCSE Grades for City

This year’s GCSE results published today have maintained CLSG’s reputation for achieving success. The hard work of students and their dedicated teachers has produced a 100% pass rate with 96% of A*-A grades, a 1% rise from the 2011 results. The total percentage of A*’s account for over 70% of the overall grades. Figures released today show that despite the reported fall in the number of highest grades being awarded, City’s GCSE results have improved further.

CLSG has also bucked the decline in the uptake of Modern and Classical Languages. All languages have been particularly successful, with A* grades awarded to the vast majority of candidates. The percentage of A* and A grades for each subject are: Chinese 100%, French 95% and Spanish 95%. Classical languages fared well too, with Latin achieving 97% A* to A and Classical Greek at 95%.

Many students achieved a ‘full house’ of starred grades, with many receiving 11 and 10 A*’s, and one student even attaining 12 A*’s.

Headmistress, Miss Diana Vernon commented on the girls’ success: “Another brilliant year for the students at CLSG. Our girls have excelled in all subjects, producing 70% A* grades. Modern Foreign Languages and Classical Languages have resulted in particularly good results. In addition, the girls have excelled in the subjects traditionally dominated by boys, with Maths and Physics proving to be the most popular subject choices for this year group as they begin their A Level courses. At GCSE, they achieved 92% of A*-A graded GCSE’s in Physics and 98% in Maths. We are very proud of all of our girls’ successes, which are the result of focused study and the encouragement given to them by their dedicated teachers.”

We wish the girls every success as they take their next step in their personal and academic lives.
