CLSG Ski Trip

The first full day was our trip to the Village des Sports, where we took turns sliding down hills in blow-up rings (it was called tubing to the Canadians). We held onto each other’s rings so we went down in groups. It was really fun, trust me! We even managed to persuade Mr. Ward and Mrs. Colwell to come down the steepest run, Everest, with us!

The rest of the week was spent skiing. On our first day, we were all a bit nervous but once we got the hang of it and were placed in the very safe, capable hands of our teachers André, Raymond and Paul, we excitedly anticipated the next days to come! The ski conditions were incredible, the views were spectacular and I fully agree with Mr. Ward when he says that Quebec is one of the most beautiful places on the planet to ski. We learnt lots and our confidence improved considerably. By the end of the week, all three groups (beginners, intermediates and advanced) had made fantastic progress, with the beginners group even taking on a Black run!

Over the course of the several evenings we had many activities. On our first night in Quebec we were lucky enough to coincide with the final parade of the winter carnival second only in size to that in Rio de Janerio where tens of thousands of people took to the streets to cheer on the various floats and performers in temperatures of -20C! This was a truly amazing sight and the Canadians are very proud of this tradition. We also went to the cinema to see L’Artiste (being a silent movie we didn’t have to worry about French dubbing!). We went bowling, as well as exploring the beautiful old city of Quebec and ended up in one of the most exclusive restaurants (it was a revolving restaurant at the top of Quebec’s highest building with amazing views) for dessert and hot chocolate. And much to the delight of some girls, we even got a chance to go around the mall!

I think we’d all like to thank Mr. Ward and Mrs. Colwell for making it possible to go on this trip and for dealing with our over-exited and bubbly antics for a week. We all had a great time and look forward to next year’s trip.
