
11+ Music Scholarship Exam Requirements:
Subsequent to the entrance examination, girls who have qualified for an interview and have applied for a music scholarship may be invited to attend an audition.
Girls who play to the level of Grade 5 are eligible to apply. The purpose of these awards, which are not means-tested, is to recognise outstanding musical ability rather than to offset significantly the cost of the school fees.
Typically, the value of the last academic year, was not more than £1,500 per annum.
Audition requirements
Candidates should be prepared to play one piece on each of the instruments studied, or two pieces on one instrument only.
There may be a short aural test and a viva which will mainly be concerned with discussing candidates’ musical interests and involvement. A second instrument, to any standard, may also be offered.
We will provide accompanists. However candidate’s may prefer to bring one of their own.

Corporation Music Scholarships
The Corporation Music Scholarships and awards are available for two years to a candidate studying music in the sixth form. The purpose of these awards, which are not means-tested, is to recognise outstanding musical ability rather than to offset significantly the cost of the school fees. Typically, the value of the last academic year, was not more than £1,500 per annum.
Each candidate will have a 20 minute audition. Candidates will be expected to play on each of the instruments offered. There will also be a short aural test and a viva which will be conducted by a panel from the Music Department. Candidates will be asked about their musical background and interests and general musical knowledge. We suggest that candidate’s bring samples of their written work (e.g. GCSE compositions) as there will not be a formal written music test.
Joint City of London School for Girls / Guildhall School of Music & Drama Scholarship
In addition to our usual Sixth form Scholarships which are awarded for all-round academic excellence, we also offer a Special Sixth Form Music Scholarship in conjunction with the Junior Guildhall. This scholarship, which may cover up to full basic fees at both establishments or two half-fee awards (depending on ability and financial need) will be available for an outstanding musician of a good academic standard. The award will be held for the two years of the Sixth Form course starting in September 2009. It will be awarded on the results of tests and auditions. The candidate is expected to have completed her GCSE course and to have achieved the academic standards required for entry to the Sixth Form of CLSG. The scholarship will provide Financial Assistance in the fees for 'AS & A2' Level tuition in chosen subjects, which do not necessarily have to include music.
We are delighted to be able to offer this exciting opportunity to a young musician who will thus be able to benefit from the close proximity and excellent facilities of the two schools.
