Edward Heath, Benazir Bhutto and William Gladstone lined the walls of the chamber of the Oxford Union as we stepped out onto the floor in this year’s Oxford Union International Competition for Young Debaters. But these grand busts were far less intimidating than the panel of Oxford University student judges assembled to test our skill over four rounds of debating on controversial issues of today.

Ruta Quetzal

Last year I was selected to represent the UK on a Spanish expedition called the Ruta Quetzal.   I was one of 360 students from 56 countries who travelled through Panama and Spain for 6 weeks, camping and learning to go ‘back to basics’, taking a cultural and physical adventure.   We overcame language barriers and developed fluency in our Spanish.

Best known as the presenter of ‘The Human Body’, ‘Super Human’ and ‘Child of Our Time’ television series , he also heads up a world leading human fertility research team at Imperial College. His theories address the debate between science and religion in the fields of IVF and reproductive genetics.

Mini Marathon

12 City students ran the Adidas London Mini Marathon as part of the 'City Squad' on 13 April. The marathon, which is the last 2.65 miles of the London marathon, attracts runners aged 11-17 from all over London and the UK boroughs. This year, Emily Wickham (13-14) and Elizabeth Dunne (11-12) both won their age division in impressive times.
