This is an extremely popular arts subject, which can be great fun. This is not to say that it is a soft option as self-discipline and organisational skills are essential in what is a mainly practical subject.
GCSE
Pupils studying Drama and Theatre Arts will concentrate on two distinct elements, a practical and written component. Girls will widen their appreciation and understanding of a range of drama and theatre experiences, experience an increase in self and group awareness and develop imaginative, creative, cognitive, communication and social skills.
Students will work in small groups to perform both scripted and improvised performances. All of the acting components will be performed in front of an audience from school community and occasionally from the general public. Students are encouraged to experiment with different theatre styles and disciplines, to produce their own shows and to take part in other productions. Students also undertake a written element, whereby they have the option to write essays on the work completed in school and the work they have seen by others.
SIXTH FORM
Drama and Theatre Studies
This is a fascinating and challenging course, which complements a wide range of other AS/A2 subjects. It will develop your interest in and enjoyment of theatre as an audience member and as a practitioner. The course will encourage a knowledge and understanding of social, political and cultural contexts and the work of prescribed practitioners. You will work to enhance your interpretative and practical skills in both individual and group activities.
