SIXTH FORM
This is an interesting, challenging, exciting subject, relevant to everyday life and behaviour. Students
develop a critical understanding of the research methods used in psychology and gain
an overview of different approaches in Psychology including,
social,
developmental,
cognitive,
physiological, and
individual differences.
Students are introduced to some of the current issues and debates, including ethical and social issues, surrounding the discipline. Practical research exercises encourage a hands on approach and ensure students experience the joys and frustrations of studying humans for themselves. The studies include investigations about memory and eyewitness testimony, autism and difficulties of diagnosis of mental illness, brain function, sleep and dreams, social behaviour including altruism, obedience, aggression, and addictive behaviour. Applied areas in the second year include Health and Forensic Psychology.
