Careers

careers_2.jpg
City provides pupils with careers education and guidance to support subject choices, work experience, university entrance requirements and GAP year options as they prepare for life after school. The Careers Office gives girls the tools to understand and experience opportunities within education, training and employment and help them to make informed decisions.

Students are given the skills to manage their own careers by:

  1. Analysing students' abilities, skills and interests in relation to their career options and choices.
  2. Supporting students in learning skills which are necessary to make effective decisions.
  3. Enabling girls to manage change both in new roles and in new situations.
  4. Assisting girls in making choices about career paths and continuing education and training.
  5. Ensuring that girls are aware of education, training and career opportunities.

We have been rewarded for our excellence in careers education and guidance through the award of the quality standard of the national Connexions Service, "Investors in Careers".

    Careers Committee

The Careers Committee consists of girls from every year group who meet regularly to give their input into the School’s Careers Programme. They suggest speakers to come and talk about different careers areas, workplaces to visit or to give feedback on careers resources. A broad range of speakers have visited the school. Click on the links below to read girls' accounts of two of these guest speakers:

Alexandra Marks - top solicitor and committed humanitarian

David Evans - film and TV director

University Applications, Leavers' Destinations and Successful Alumni

The Careers Office gives encouragement and assistance when it comes to making decisions about higher education.  Many girls take a gap year and use the time to learn a new skill, to gain employment experience, to do voluntary service or to travel. Virtually every City leaver goes on to higher education at university, art or music college. For the past ten years every pupil who has obtained the required grades has been offered a place at medical school, and there have been successful applications in other extremely competitive courses such as Veterinary Science, Law and Physiotherapy. Whether your passion is for English or Engineering, History or Human Sciences, we have the experience to help you succeed.

Could you help support the Careers Department?

We are very keen to support CLSG pupils in preparing for their future by giving them the chance to hear about, and experience different careers and occupations by contact with the people currently working in them.
