'Off By Heart' poetry competition

At the end of last year I was chosen by my school to take part in the BBC's ‘Off By Heart' national poetry competition, after I recited Benjamin Zephaniah's amazing poem, ‘Talking Turkeys'. February crept up on us and it was time for me to participate in one of the five London regional heats. When I registered, I felt scared but excited and determined to do my best representing my school.

The Golden Hinde

On our way to the Golden Hinde, we walked for about half an hour through the city streets and across the Thames.  When we got there we had to put on our costumes; you could be an officer, the highest rank, then it was a barber surgeon, then it was a gunner.  I was a gunner, the stupidest of the stupid, but the bravest of the brave.  Even the teachers had to dress up!

City of London School for Girls’ pupil, Kezia, has been declared the national winner of creative writing competition ‘Igniting Writing’. Pie Corbett came into City of London School for Girls to congratulate Kezia who is now in Year 7. Pie Corbett was also able to participate in the launch of a new venture for the Prep Department of CLSG: a published book that includes a piece of creative writing from all the girls in Prep as well as each of the Prep staff.

Baroness Harris

On Wednesday 18th March Baroness Harris of Richmond visited the Preparatory Department of the City of London School for Girls.  Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Northern Ireland and the Home Office, Baroness Harris is also currently a Deputy Speaker and Deputry Chairman of Committees.  Baroness Harris visited CLSG to enrich the Year 6's work in their Democracy and Parliament module of the Citizenship programme.

Prep Sports Day
Prep Sports Day.
Prep Sports Day is held during the Summer Term and all of the girls show enthusiasm and participate to the best of their ability. The Year 3 and 4 girls compete in relay races on the All Weather Sports Pitch while the Year 5 and 6 girls compete in swimming galas.

Kingswood Trip

Kingswood.
The Prep Department visited Kingswood from 13 to 15 June. The trip was full of exciting activities, such as archery and abseiling. The girls also participated in team and trust building activities, such as ‘Nightline’ where they went through a muddy obstacle course, blindfolded.

Preps at Hooke Court.
The Year 5's enjoyed a 3 day residential trip to Hooke Court, West Dorset. They enjoyed a range of outdoor team building games and activities and had a great time pretending to be servants in Victorian times. They enjoyed crafts, baking, parlour games and a tea party.

Preps Attempt a World Record

Peter Pan.
At precisely 9.15am on 7th March, girls in the Prep Department joined with children from around the nation to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest number of people reading aloud, simultaneously in multiple venues. The mammoth undertaking, nick-named 'Peter Pan's Big Thyme Rhyme', was in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital, who are raising money for a new renal unit.
