City of London School for Girls’ pupil, Kezia, has been declared the national winner of creative writing competition ‘Igniting Writing’. The competition was launched by publishers Nelson Thornes to promote their creative writing course, in collaboration with children’s author Pie Corbett. Kezia’s suspense story entitled ‘Music in the Depths' was deemed to be the best of many excellent entries. Pie Corbett came into City of London School for Girls to congratulate Kezia who is now in Year 7. Mr Corbett praised her writing style, the suspense in the plot and her gripping first line: ‘I know secrets’.
Kezia’s prize involves having the story turned into an e-book for publication on Nelson Thornes’
website.
Pie Corbett was also able to participate in the launch of a new venture for the Prep Department of CLSG: a published book that includes a piece of creative writing from all the girls in Prep as well as each of the Prep staff. The publication of the book ‘We are Writers’ was met with much delight from the girls who are very excited to see their work in print.
