On Wednesday 18th March Baroness Harris of Richmond visited the Preparatory Department of City of London School for Girls.
Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Northern Ireland and the Home Office, Baroness Harris is also currently a Deputy Speaker and Deputy Chairman of Committees.
Baroness Harris visited CLSG to enrich the Year 6’s work in their Democracy and Parliament module of the Citizenship programme.
The visit, organised via the outreach programme of the Lord Speaker at the House of Lords, is part of the wide range of visiting speakers, day trips and residential visits intended to ensure that the school gives the girls the broadest experience possible as an essential ingredient in their education at Key Stage Two.
Baroness Harris spoke to Year 6 about becoming a Peer, working in the House of Lords and the differences between the House of Lords and the House of Commons. She shed some light on what being a baroness involves and how she and the other peers spend most of their time in the House revising and scrutinising proposed legislation.
