Welcome to the Preparatory Department

Our pupils enjoy learning a broad range of subjects as well as taking part in a wide spectrum of activities, clubs and trips. These provide them with a solid academic and social grounding within a fun and encouraging setting.

Outside the classroom, girls are able to learn a full range of musical instruments and participate in one of the Prep choirs and the Prep Orchestra. They also enjoy swimming in the school’s indoor pool, dance displays, gymnastics, netball, tennis and rounders. Healthy competition is encouraged through both the school House system and in tournaments against other London schools.

Our children in the Prep enjoy all of London ’s cultural treasures thanks to our extensive programme of trips and visits. In recent months, these have included the Museum of London , the Barbican Arts Centre, the Royal Institution, British Museum, Tate Modern, Tower of London, Natural History Museum, Science Museum and a range of West End theatres. Girls appreciate being able to learn in different environments and enjoy the added dimension that regular field trips bring to the curriculum. The girls also have the chance to join in one or more of the residential trips, including a week of environmental awareness in Somerset, a  long weekend in Normandy and a weekend at an activity centre on the Isle of Wight where girls can enjoy abseiling, climbing, go-carting and other activities.

Last year City Preps were voted the Independent Preparatory School of the Year by The Times Parent Power survey, for the third time. We are delighted to acknowledge this accolade as it clearly reflects our students' academic achievements and overall development into confident, independent, responsible girls. With the support of the City community, girls are able to meet new and exciting challenges.
