Urban Scholars
UrbanScholars
The Urban Scholars’ Intervention Programme (USIP), a Saturday school for up to 60 gifted and talented state school students from the fringe boroughs, now in its third year, is one of the most significant Outreach activities at City, who host ten sessions over the academic year at the school. The Programme uses a staff and support team drawn from all Consortium schools whilst Sixth Form students from City and partner schools act as mentors.

USIP Residential

Residential.
Last year saw the introduction of a residential weekend. 46 students left London on late on a Friday afternoon in June and headed off to Canterbury. After a minor mishap resulting from creative map reading in deepest Kent, we arrived at the University of Canterbury in time for a relaxing lecture on Thomas a Becket before dinner.

Saturday morning saw us enjoy breakfast before embarking on our morning lessons. We were treated to a lecture by Mrs Sadeque before lunch and spent the afternoon discovering Canterbury Cathedral, learning all about Thomas a Becket and his unfortunate demise.

Changing Lives
ChangingLives
City led a Consortium project entitled
Changing Lives 1 which aimed to raise aspirations and promote the self-esteem of young women by undertaking research into the lives and achievements of women in recent and previous decades. Students from Consortium schools, in partnership with The Women’s Library, and the London Metropolitan University, undertook a number of projects including investigating the history of their own school, utilising school and public archives, and collecting oral testimony from former pupils.

‘Women Leading Global Change' Conference
Women Leading Global Change conference
It's not everyday that you meet a female barrister who gave up her job to transport medical supplies during the first major siege of Fallujah, was arrested by Iraqi authorities and survived!  On 5th October, forty City students had the chance to do just that. We attended the “Women Leading Global Change” conference, organised by Mulberry School for Girls and held at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster.
