Spanish

KEY STAGE 3

By the end of the first year of study, pupils will be able to hold basic conversations, understand basic Spanish spoken at a normal pace and be able to write a letter to a pen friend on self description and family related topics. This foundation is built upon to include other topics surrounding Spanish life and grammatical rules.

We offer both Year 7 and Year 8 the opportunity to link up with Spanish pen friends at our exchange schools in Spain . In Year 9 girls may have the opportunity to take part in the 2 week Immersion Exchange with our partner school Colegio Marista Champagnat in Salamanca,  which takes place on various dates throughout the year.

GCSE

Students develop comprehension and practical communication skills, considering grammatical correctness and creativity. They also gain an insight into the culture and civilisation of European countries and communities and in turn develop an understanding of themselves and their own culture.

Girls have the chance to increase their understanding through extra-curricular clubs and societies. Furthermore, students are invited to participate in the Virolai Escola exchange programmes to Barcelona .

SIXTH FORM

Towards the end of Year 12 we organise a study visit to AndalucĂa. Girls stay with a Spanish family and take structured lessons in a language school. There are organised cultural visits to places of great interest and opportunities to socialise with young Spaniards. Click here to see the photographs from this year's trip.

The lessons this year have been particularly stimulating and interesting, as the curriculum is varied. We have studied topics regarding Spain that expand and extend those learnt at GCSE level, which gives an added sense of relevance.
