SIXTH FORM
Pupils are introduced to the visual side of their cultural heritage through a study of the major artistic movements of Western Art from classical times to the present day. Students need to enjoy looking at and thinking about works of art, irrespective of their your artistic ability.
We discuss and analyse the most significant painters, sculptors and architects within their cultural, religious and historical framework. Pupils learn to analyse the formal structure of works of art, and the importance of composition, colour and space for expressive purposes. Questions such as patronage, the status of the artist and the purpose art served are all considered. The course aims to enable girls to feel confident in their ability to consider works of art of any period and to gain satisfaction and enjoyment as a result.
The following images give a broad outline of the range of material covered in the AS and A2 History of Art coures.
