Studying at City

Academic
Academic standards are rigorous here, but the emphasis is laid on encouraging students to live up to their own potential and develop at their own rate. We expect our students to work hard but we know that they will enjoy themselves!

We offer our students a wide choice of subjects and encourage them to find out for themselves where their strengths and enthusiasm lie. From Year 7, girls learn at least two modern European languages and we supplement their timetable with opportunities to learn about other cultures through clubs, societies and activities. Girls have the chance to travel to Europe and beyond on language and cultural exchange programmes.

The traditional humanities, arts and sciences are enhanced by imaginative teaching methods and projects. Our prominence in national league tables shows how successful our students are in examinations, but an education at City is about much more than achieving high grades; we endeavour to teach our students to enjoy learning and to help them discover new abilities and interests throughout their time at school.

Subject Guide

SubjectGuide
City of London School for Girls offers students a large range of subjects, providing girls with a broad education which includes sciences, humanities, modern languages and the creative arts. As they progress through the school, girls are gradually able to focus their attention on areas which have captured their interest.

Academic Achievements

2007GCSEResults
"I would like to share my delight at our students' success in public examinations. Once again, City girls have achieved superb results in AS and A Level exams, GCSEs and Key Stage 2 tests and they deserve to be very proud their accomplishments. Whilst we encourage girls to develop in all areas of their lives, their outstanding examination results are proof of the energy and determination that they have put into their studies. I am very proud of their richly deserved achievements." Miss Diana Vernon, Headmistress:
